Welcome
By Dave Munger | April 1, 2008
Hi, I'm Dave Munger. I'm president of ResearchBlogging.org and I don't speak a word of German. But this is the first page of an experimental blog to create a German community on ResearchBlogging.org. Here we'll work together to coordinate plans for creating the first non-English language aggregator of peer-reviewed research blogging on the Web.
Some initial thoughts:
- We'll need at least ten bloggers to join the community in order for it to be self-sustaining. Since the English-speaking volunteers who created ResearchBlogging.org can't understand German, it will be up to this community to monitor itself and ensure that it maintains the quality established by ResearchBlogging.org.
- At this point, you won't be able to sign up for ResearchBlogging.org, so if you're interested in joining us, just post a comment here and we'll add you to our list of interested bloggers.
- We're currently working on a new version of the site that will support multiple languages. But it is the people behind the system itself that will make it work. Let's get the people organized so that when the software is ready, the people will be too.
- We will need at least two volunteers who speak English and will be willing to spend some time working with our staff to ensure that the German version of the site meets their needs, including translating some key text and guidelines from our English-language site.
- Beyond that, it's up to you. I'll try to keep up with what's happening here, but for the German community to work, it will require the efforts of German-speaking bloggers, just as the English language site works due to the efforts of English-speaking bloggers.

[…] Tobias and other volunteers will be working in parallel with us as we develop version 2.0 of the ResearchBlogging.org system. Our vision is to have a sytem where users can select the languages they’d like to see (German only, English only, or both languages). A German-speaking community of bloggers will ensure that all posts in German meet the same standards as the English language system. Below is Tobias’ announcement. If you’re interested in participating as we develop this new community, then make a comment on this post. […]

Dear Dave Munger,
thanks for your efforts connecting and supporting a ResearchingBlogging community to supply our german whishes for qualifying scienceblogs
And not to forget, the same thanks to Tobias. You do that for nothing, but you do it for our science and the future of science blogs….
Thank you and much greetings Monika Armand

na, muss mich wohl auch anmelden

You’re welcome, Monika. Most of the credit should go to Tobias, because this could never happen without his hard work.
It’s wonderful to see the number of bloggers who are already interested.
We’re going to need more volunteers to make sure the site runs smoothly. We’ll have more information about that soon.
